Wallen Mitchell "Wally" Wong Obituary
Wallen was born in Bakersfield, CA on February 3, 1958 and passed away on July 22, 2014 at the age of 56. Wallen was one of five siblings born to Frank and Susan Wong. He graduated from South High School in Bakersfield where he was on the football and wrestling teams.  He also played many years of little league baseball. Growing up in Bakersfield provided Wallen the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and in particular, fishing on the Kern River and anywhere else there might be "lunkers."
Wallen went on to earn a BS degree in Biology from the University of California, Irvine.  Upon graduating from UCI, Wallen stayed in Irvine and was extremely active in his community where he coached hundreds and possibly thousands of kids in baseball. One of his greatest achievements was being the coach of the only 13U Irvine Pony Team to ever win a World Series. In addition to coaching, Wallen umpired and refereed baseball, softball, football, and wrestling.
Although Wallen set up a home and raised a family in Irvine, he stayed in touch with many, many friends in Bakersfield as well.  He never forgot his roots and stayed a faithful friend to so many.
His life has positively impacted many families.  We know the memory of him, his infectious laugh and smile, his many jokes, will inspire so many for years to come.
His Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 2nd at St. John Neumann Church, 5101 Alton Pkwy, Irvine, CA 92604. The service will start at 12:00pm followed by a reception in the church courtyard until 3:30 pm.
Wallen is loved and will be missed tremendously by his wife, five children, his mother  Susan, his brothers Wyatt, Wesley and Wilbur and sister Melody and their families, his extended family and the Bakersfield and Irvine communities.
