Wanda K. Carl Obituary
Wanda K. Carl ("mom") was called Home to be with the Lord. Though her family has been left with an inconsolable sorrow, she passed peacefully at home with family following an all-too-short battle with cancer.
Wanda was a loving, nurturing, kind and generous person who loved her children and was devoted to her husband. She was a true and loyal friend and a steadfast and reliable companion. She was faithful to her Christian beliefs and was part of a weekly Bible Study group for over 30 years, made up of life-long friends and other's seeking to understand and relate the Word.
She was a life-long hobbyist of crafts including knitting, sewing, crochet and quilting. Her creations and heirlooms number in the tens of thousands, including her signature Christmas stockings, and were sought out by family, friends as well as fellow enthusiasts and people who value quality hand-made items. Wanda was an avid and voracious reader who always had a book or Kindle with her. She also lived to golf! After more than thirty years of playing, the golf courses still likely have her "pink-lady" tees and golf balls nestled in hidden troves around the county.During her 45 year career, Wanda was a tireless advocate for her community. She last served as the proactive and diligent Office Manager for SISC at the Kern County of Superintendent's Office ("Pull up your big girl panties and get to work ladies!") for fourteen years. Throughout her years she was active in supporting and leading numerous clubs, charities and organizations whose purposes were to improve the lives of the less fortunate, advance woman in business and help empower people of all ages to take charge of their lives in order to pursue their dreams. Just a few of her treasured roles include being the 1972 President of the National Secretaries Assoc., the 1991 President of the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce - Women's Div., Chairperson of the 2006 Bakersfield Women's Business Conference as well as serving for many years as a judge for Bakersfield Academic Decathlon. Also the winner of the unofficial 2004 "Texas Hold'em Garage Tourney" after an exhaustive night of competition and partying!
She is survived by her sons, Charles Revell and Kelly Carl; her brother, Leonard D. Wilson; sisters-in-law, Sharon Wilson, Susan Graro and Judy Wilson; a niece, Shawn Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Dr. Maria Revell; granddaughters Tamiya Smith and Tasha Ceass; a grandson, Tomas Anthony Millard; and great grandsons, Thomas Smith, and Eli Ceass. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Raymond F. Carl, her loving brother Gilbert Wilson and her mother Lucille May Harrington. A Memorial Service will be announced and held in Bakersfield, CA in the near future. It's gonna be a celebration!
In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation, or volunteer, in remembrance to Wanda Carl to any one of the many charities important to Wanda: The , St Jude's, Center for the Cure, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Veterans of Kern County and the California Veterans Assistance Foundation. The family also wishes to thank the staffs of San Joaquin Memorial Hospital, Rosewood Village, HealthSouth Rehabilitation, Glenwood Gardens, Around-The-Clock Companion Care and Hoffman Hospice for their help with, and loving care of, our mother, Wanda.
