Wendell William Wolfe February 4, 1926 - January 7, 2013 Wendell was born in Kellyville, OK in 1926 to Frank and Floss Ora Wolfe and passed away on January 7, 2013 in Bakersfield, CA. Survivors include his wife, Doris, son Carl, daughter Katy Jo Riggs her four children, and daughter Lea Anne Payne, her husband Thomas Payne and their two children, former spouse Margaret Mace Wolfe, seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and two step-children, Christine Groskie and Steven Simmons, and 3 step grandchildren. Following service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, he earned a BS Degree from North Texas University and later earned an MS degree, and in 1964 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree by The University of Texas at Austin. In addition to teaching in the public schools in Texas, Wendell served in several administrative positions at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Following retirement from the University, he served as a Program Review Officer for 5 years for the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education. Wendell was a beloved husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was a kind, gentle and generous man with a great sense of humor, and will be dearly missed. He will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery on January 12th at 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverlakes Community Church (4301 Calloway Dr). on Saturday, January 12th. at 11:00 a.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits
