William Dean "Bill" Cassel Obituary
William Dean "Bill" Cassel, 69, born on October 30, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on July 9, 2014, at home in Bakersfield, California.
Bill grew up in Fullerton, California, where, as a child, he discovered his love of fishing, golf, and most of all, USC Trojan football for which he was a long-time season ticket holder. He attended home games at The Coliseum with his father when he was young, later tailgating there with his wife, Georgia, at home games as well as games across the country, including National Championship games from Pasadena to Florida. Bill began his career with Republic Supply and, in 1984, founded his own company, Cassel & Associates, an oil and gas manufacturers' representative organization. He then moved to Bakersfield to be closer to the active major oil fields of Kern County.
Bill took great pride in building a very successful business. He was admired and respected by those in his industry, as he was devoted to not only the manufacturers he represented but also to the customers he supported. Bill was a charismatic individual and had a natural sense of humor and quick wit, and those he met in the industry became friends for life.
He loved his ocean fishing excursions for albacore and yellow fin tuna just as much as his fly fishing trips on a lake or stream. He also enjoyed golf outings with his friends. Bill was spontaneous and fun-loving and had a good and generous heart. He treasured the time with his wife on the Central Coast and enjoyed their frequent walks on the beach with Fiona, their beloved Scottish Terrier.
Bill loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Georgia, his son, Bob, his daughter, Jeannette (Cassel) Alvarado, grandchildren Ava and Brenna Cassel and Evan Alvarado, his extended "family", Gale McAbee, Chris Schafer and Mickey Alferi, all of Cassel & Associates in Bakersfield, Jerry Long of Cassel & Associates in Southern California, long-time friend and former business partner Wayne Allman of Ashland, Oregon, as well as many friends and business associates. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia.
An open house in remembrance of Bill's life will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Cassel & Associates, 2130 Saturn Court, Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to or cause.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
