William Harold "Bill" Yates July 30, 1925 - July 13, 2012 William Harold "Bill" Yates, 86, passed away July 13, 2012. Born July 30, 1925 in Battlefield Missouri, he left home at 16 years old and migrated to California where he has lived for the past 70 years. Bill is survived by Beverly his wife of 61 years, his daughter Nancy and his daughter-in-law Cindy. 5 grandchildren: Lori (Mike), Pamela (Joby), Robert, Amanda (Josh), Kristen (Andy), and 6 great grandchildren: Kimberly, Jalen, Brandon, Alannah, Aaron and Liliana. Preceded in death 2 months ago by his son, Mark. Bill served in WWII as a tech sergeant in the mechanics division. He landed on Normandy Beach, D-Day + 1 after traveling across the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary. After receiving his Bachelor Degree from UCLA and his Masters Degree from Pepperdine University Bill worked for the State of California in the Dept. of Rehabilitation for over 30 years. Bill was an avid UCLA football and basketball fan. He had a kind heart and a good sense of humor. He was a helpful and loyal friend. Bill will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Memorial service to be held at Greenlawn, Southwest (2739 Panama Bakersfield, Ca 93313) at 11:00am, Friday, July 20th, 2012.
