June 14, 1986 - January 1, 2012

Karen Elizabeth Reis was born in Ventura,

California on October 7, 1987. She moved

to Bakersfield at age four and attended Our

Lady of Perpetual Help School, Garces

Memorial High School and UC San Diego.

Blessed with gifts of height, agility and an

abundantly generous spirit, Karen

passionately played volleyball for Garces,

club teams and UC San Diego. Karen was

an altar server at OLPH, helped run

Pebbles Pathway youth program and

actively participated in bible study groups

at The Rock Church in San Diego. Karen

loved working at Trader Joe's in La Jolla

and enjoyed coaching club and high

school volleyball. She also attended

community college pursuing prerequisites

to become an occupational therapist. She

was an avid runner and beach-goer, and

relished playing a spirited game of NERTZ

with anyone who dared to play against her.

Her overflowing joy for life was often

expressed by singing in her car, especially

when stopped in traffic. Karen was an

incredibly creative and selfless young

woman, with an authentic loving smile for

everyone. She will be greatly missed by all

whose lives she touched.

David Andrew Reis was born in Ventura, California on June 14, 1986. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Garces High School, University of New Mexico and NROTC. An avid outdoorsman, David scaled Mount Whitney, hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-river, canoed the Colorado and was known to carry a watermelon in his backpack for his fellow Boy Scouts. David was an Eagle Scout, piloted his own sailboat, and founded a T-shirt company with a few of his college friends. Gifted with high spirits and a brilliant mind, David embraced every challenge with a unique blend of intellect and instinct. Flying an F-18 fighter jet was a logical extension of his experience behind the wheel of his BMW M3. It's good the car didn't have wings, as David was often known for trying to achieve flight, an instinct that did not go unnoticed by local traffic enforcement. He was good at being an adult kid, a natural leader with maturity beyond his years. David was also the most loving brother to Karen, her knight in shining armor. We will miss David tremendously, but take solace knowing that he is now forever flying in flawless formation across eternity, with Karen on his wing.
David and Karen's visitation will be held at 6:00pm with Rosary starting at 7:30pm, on Friday, January 6th, 2012, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Funeral service will be on Saturday, January 7th, 2012, 10:00am at St. Philip Church.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Graces Memorial High School FBO David and Karen Reis Memorial Fund, 2800 Loma Linda Dr. Bakersfield, CA 93305. 661-327-2578
