Riley M. Middleton May 4, 1940 - February 4, 2012 Riley M. Middleton, age 71 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2012 after a brief illness from heart failure. He was born May 4, 1940 in Bakersfield, California to Victor M Middleton and Wynema E (Bratcher) Middleton. He was a graduate of East Bakersfield High School and received an Associates Degree at Bakersfield College. On October 21, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart Judy A Howard. Together they had 2 children, a daughter Sherry A (Middleton) Greene and a son Curtis R Middleton. As a family they spent approximately 25 years enjoying water skiing and house boating. The family continues to vacation together every year visiting family and friends. Riley was employed by Oilfields Trucking for 25 years as a mechanic and Vice President in charge of maintenance. He spent the next 25 years as a top salesman at Cummins West until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed building his ski boat and his 1956 Ford pickup street rod. His family, his friends and his hobbies were his passion. After retirement Riley and his wife Judy enjoyed traveling, always accompanied by their precious Persian cat, "Alf", affectionately known as "Little Buddy". They traveled all around the country to every state, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. They have been members of the Break-A-Way R.V. club for many years. They moved to Oregon in 2005 which was their dream for retirement. Riley was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, Roseburg, Oregon for 6 years in the courtesy transportation department. He was also involved in the building maintenance ministry at Foursquare Gospel Center. He truly loved helping people whenever there was a need. Riley is survived by his beloved wife Judy of 51 years, a daughter Sherry A Greene and husband Gary of Thompson, Connecticut, a son Curt Middleton of Bakersfield, California, a brother George Middleton and wife Donna, a sister Pamela Dunson and husband Craig, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Kent Middleton, a nephew Mark Middleton and great niece Emory Middleton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
