Mary Jo Buckle November 19, 1934 - June 11, 2012 Mary Jo Buckle passed away at home Monday June 11, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 4600 Stockdale Hwy on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Mary Jo was born November 19, 1934 in Girard Kansas. She moved to Bakersfield at age 10 and graduated from BHS in 1952. After a semester at University of Colorado, she returned to attend Bakersfield College and then on to Cal Berkeley, where she received her teaching credential. Her entire 38 year teaching career was spent in the Panama district at Panama, Stine, Seibert and Sing Lum schools. Mary Jo loved travelling and spending time with family and friends. Her travels varied between a two week adventure through China and weeks in the trailer at Pismo. She loved her crazy trips with the "Trailer Trash" and the "Roommates" and all the rest of her activities with her huge circle of friends, including her canasta buddies, book club, classmates, fellow retired teacher friends and her church family at FUMC. She touched their lives and loved them all. She was very active in volunteering in the community, ranging from Habitat for Humanity to teaching Sunday school as a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. Mary Jo was preceded in death by Don, her beloved husband of 45 years, her parents and step-parents, Marie and Brian Young, George and Bertha Duff, her sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and Claude Gordon, and sister-in-law, Joanne Francis. She is survived by her son Gregg, his wife Adrienne and their son Andrew, her son Kurt and his better-half Karen, their daughters Raquel, Allison and Bonnie, cousin Sandra Lamprich and her family, brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Buckle and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank all of her friends, relatives, and neighbors for their loving support during this difficult time.
