In 1952 the family settled down in Shafter, California managing the Lachenmaier horse ranch. George became so skilled at diagnosing health problems with the horses that one local veterinarian used to tell new vets "If you can't figure out what is wrong with a horse, go ask George." Later he managed horse ranches in Cedar City, Utah and Lemoore, California. After retirement, he and Billie lived in Kingsburg. When Billie passed away, he moved to Shafter to live closer to his son. George was preceded in death by sisters Cora and Marian, and good friend Betty Tritton. His brother Joe and his wife Jan live in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by his son George H. and daughter-in-law Sandra; granddaughter Kristin Meranda, her husband Michael, and their children Maddie and Josh; grandson Erik, his wife Julie and their children Katie and Hannah. Memorial services are pending.
