Mary Soltero February 24, 1928 - October 18, 2012 Our beloved mother, Mary Petra Villa was born in Tulare, California, and passed away in Bakersfield, California, after a brief illness. Mary was a great mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She expressed her love to all her family in her own special way by making tacos for her son, her traditional Mexican "arroz con leche" for her family at Christmas time and her delicious capirotoda at Lent. Not only was Mary a great Mother, but an exceptional devoted wife to Joe Soltero for 63 years. Mary played an instrumental role in her husband's feat of winning 12 Little League championships. She was a dedicated supporter of her husband's 37-year coaching career in the Delano Little League. Mary was fortunate to travel the world with her children and friends. Not only did she travel the U.S., but also to Europe, North Africa and Mexico. She loved sharing her traveling stories and always gave many thanks to her husband for making it possible. Mary's love of her church and religion was immeasurable. She played an active role in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Her devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus was well known in the community, and annually she would collect donations in honor of St. Jude's feast day. Not only did we lose a great Mother and Wife, but her friends lost a great "Comadre". Her friends will sorely miss her laughter, loyalty and their hour-long phone conversations. Mary's survivors include her husband, Mr. Joe Soltero; her son Karl Soltero, her daughter Madeline Parra and husband Michael Parra Jr., and daughter Jill Ruiz and husband Ernest Ruiz Jr.; her granddaughter Laura Parra Rocha and husband MSG Juan Rocha, grandson Paul Joseph Parra, and granddaughter Natalie Ruiz; and her great-grandsons Michael and Jonathan Rocha. Services: Rosary and Mass on October 29, 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Delano. Interment will follow at North Kern Cemetery District. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1015 Clinton Street, Delano, CA 93215. Mary's sharp wit, charm, laughter and beauty will be sorely missed by her friends and family. Until we meet again. www.bakersfield.com/obits
