Roger Lee Bridgford Obituary
Roger Lee Bridgford 1940-2012 Dad was born on February 1, 1940 in Watonga Oklahoma and after a brave battle with Alzheimer's, went home to his Lord and Savior on November 3rd, 2012. Dad grew up on a farm in Oklahoma learning how to work hard. He moved to Bakersfield in 1956 and attended North High School where he was an outstanding wrestler, placing 2nd in the state championships. After graduating high school he met his forever love, Donna. They would be married in 1962 and celebrated 46 years of marriage before Donna was called home in 2009. Dad was in the Air Force and was stationed in the Azores. When he returned home from service he began a 29 year career as an officer in the California Highway Patrol. He worked a few years in the Los Angeles area and many in the Bakersfield area specifically Oildale. He finished his career on Wheeler Ridge at the truck scales. He retired in 1995 and became a full time grandpa. Dad was also a flight instructor here in Bakersfield. He taught many people how to fly airplanes. Dad was a gifted craftsman and made many creations with wood. Many of these creations are still in family and friends homes and churches to this day. Dad was amazingly patient, kind and giving. He gave his heart to Jesus at an early age and lived a life exemplifying the teachings of Jesus. We are at a loss without our Dad. Dad was perfect in our eyes. He leaves behind his brother Charles, his son Marc and wife Tammy, his daughter Sally and husband David and his daughter Tara. He also leaves behind his grandkids who he called "perfect", Daniel, Makenzie, Moriah, Emily and Allison. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Bucky, Barbara, Alex and all the staff at Samaritans for taking such good care of our Dad. Also, many thanks to Hoffman Hospice for their outstanding care. Services will be Friday November 9th at 10:00am at Greenlawn Mortuary Chapel on River Blvd. A graveside will follow. www.bakersfield.com/obits
