Joseph M. Bispo Jr. September 14, 1932 - November 10, 2012 Joseph M. Bispo Jr. passed away quietly in his home on November 10, 2012, after a battle with congestive heart failure. Joe was born on September 14, 1932 to Joseph and Marie Bispo in Hughson, CA. Joe was a hard working man who loved his family, friends, his dog and his many interests. An avid model train collector, he amassed over 100 collectable trains. Joe loved shopping at and selling at the swap meets. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage, lefthanded-ness, grandchildren and his 23 tree orchard. Joe graduated from Hughson High School in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Joan Griffin. After having Steven and Jennifer, the family of four moved to Bakersfield in 1965 with Joe's company, Bakersfield Door and Sash. Their youngest son, Bradley, was born in Bakersfield shortly thereafter. Joe worked 12 years with King Lumber/Civic Center Company, 23 years with Familian Pipe and Supply, and then 12 years with Sears. In 1970, Joe married Joane Chambers Jenkins and became another dad to Joane's daughters Leisha and Leslie. He was "Papa Joe" to 5 grand children, and delighted in setting up one of his model trains around the Christmas Tree every December. They built their dream house in east Bakersfield in 1976. Joe loved fishing, gathering and chopping firewood, dove hunting and home improvement projects. Joe is predeceased by his wife Joane Bispo, his son Brad Bispo and daughter Leisha Jenkins Sims. He is survived by his children and their families Steven and Becky Bispo, Jennifer Bispo, Leslie and Jeff Chitwood; brother Stanley Bispo and sister Betty Bispo, grandchildren Ross, Bryan, Ashley, Faith and Jesse and his loyal companion Prince. We will all miss his wry observations, caring comments and his sense of humor. The family would like to extend our thanks to the kind people at Hoffmann Hospice, as well as friend and dog walker Jeanne Esneault. Visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. and services will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or Forever Friends Golden Retriever Rescue (www.ffgrrescue.org).
