William George Burlando Obituary
William George Burlando 1917 - 2013 William George Burlando, Kernville's last Burlando Ranch pioneer, passed away on February 5, 2013. He was born on December 28, 1917 on the Burlando Ranch which was located where the town of Kernville stands today. Bill was the son of Matt and Lupe Apalatea Burlando. His father came from Turin, Italy in the early 1900's and his mother was a Kern River Valley Paiute. As a young man, Bill, along with his brothers, acted in many western movies in Old Kernville and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Bill served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a very proud American, a Paiute, Native American. Bill lived all his 95 years of his life, minus the five years he spent in the Army, in Kernville, California. He built many of the buildings and homes you see in town today. Bill worked in various capacities throughout his life from Forestry to Fish Hatchery, to builder, to parks, but when asked his favorite job he responded, "I liked working as a group supervisor at Camp Owens." And it was from there, Kern County Department of Probation that Bill retired. Bill is survived by his three children, Matt Burlando, Kathy Burlando and Karen Cale; eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Bill loved his family and friends. Once you met Bill Burlando you became his friend for life. He was an icon here in the Kern River Valley and will truly be missed by us all! Full Military Graveside services will be held for him at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits
