David Alan Kent September 8, 1941 ~ February 17, 2013 David returned to the Father on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at home with his family at his side. He faced his difficult walk with his disease as he did his life - with courage, determination, and his signature stubbornness. David was born September 8, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Charles and Martha Kent. He graduated from South Catholic High School, attended Dayton University, and served in the National Guard. He was an avid Pirates, Steelers, and Duke basketball fan. He loved music and sports; played tennis, basketball, and street football with his brothers and many friends, and later with his sons and daughter. Dad was never too busy to "play catch." David was devoted to the love of his life, Mary Martin, whom he married on October 1, 1966. They had three children, to whom he was an old fashioned Dad, instilling them with belief in God, good moral values, and a strong work ethic. David was always a true gentleman, never heard to complain or make excuses about anything. David worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in the auditing/management area. He moved his family to Bakersfield in 1983 and faithfully went to work for Grossman's Sunrise Builders, HomeBase, House2Home, and up until about one month ago, Keleher's Court Reporters. He loved to laugh and made friends wherever he went. David is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Charlie, Ted, and Ami (Jonathan); brothers, Bob (Roberta), Mike (Sue), Roger (Judy), and Richard (Regina); and grandchildren, Joseph, Marcella, Alyssa, Jon-Jon, Jonah, and Jacob. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 7100 Stockdale Hwy. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. The family wishes to send their sincere gratitude to Alere Care Management (Teresa), Mercy Home Health (Kelly and Ramon), Mercy Hospital (Amanda), and Dr. Ciarolla and his caring staff, Renee, Jennifer, and Kelly.
