Francis "Bud" Perry May 19, 1921--March 16, 2013 Francis E. Perry, electrical engineer and partner in United Electric Co. in Bakersfield, died peacefully on March 16 at his daughter, Linda's home in Redmond, Wash. He was 91. He was born in San Francisco May 19, 1921 to Mike and Irene Perry, A Stanford University graduate and U.S. Navy veteran, Francis, nicknamed ``Bud,' earned a reputation for honesty and integrity while troubleshooting complex electrical problems at United Electric. His father, Mike Perry, a master electrician who helped wire the 1939 San Francisco World's Fair, later moved to Kern County with his family and founded United Electric to service the region's oil fields for 40 years. A devoted father of four, friend to many, and trusted businessman, Bud Perry's values were rooted in the honor code of the Boy Scouts. He survived as a scout and leader for 10 years out of an old oilfield tank on 4th Street across from Emerson School. He excelled in swimming and was on the water polo team at Bakersfield Kern High School, Bakersfield College, and Stanford. He earned tuition money for Stanford by cleaning and servicing swimming pools in Bakersfield and Palo Alto. He graduated from Stanford in 1942 and immediately was called to serve in the U.S. Navy. While serving on a naval ship at the Panama Canal, he contracted tuberculosis and lost a lung. He recovered and went on to become an avid and elegant water and snow skier. Mr. Perry was married to his high school sweetheart, (Muriel) Jean Cook. Jean taught at St. Francis school while they reared their four children, Michael, Linda, Mark and Jon (deceased). United Electric closed after Francis' partner and brother, Art, died. Bud's professional reputation propelled his subsequent business as an electrical consultant. In later years, he cared for his wife, who died in 2008. A man of faith who worshipped at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, Mr. Perry was the captain of his ship and an inspiration to his family. He is survived by his children, Dr. Michael E. Perry and wife Sandra; Linda M. Elias, Mark C. Perry and wife, Alice. His grandchildren are Evan and wife Stella; Justin and wife Kinzi; Tanya and husband, Randy; Annemarie and husband, Kevin; Jordana and husband, Louis; Daniel. His eight great-grandchildren are Trevor, Alyssa, Brandon, Andrew, Ryan, Brandon, Adison and Lucas. He was truly loved and will be missed. A memorial ceremony will be held for relatives and friends at the Perry home on the Kern River, 6313 River Grove St. April 6. at 3 p.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits
