John Romero Obituary

John Romero, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents Jennie and Diego "Tony" Romero; and sister Sophie Sliter. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; daughter Jennifer (Jon) Rimer, and sons John (Shannon) Romero, Jr. and Michael (Rebecca) Romero; sisters Rachel, Valentina, and Jane; brothers David and Michael; as well as grandkids, Alexandria, Jacob, Anastasia, Jonathan, Delaney, Charlotte, Thomas, and William.
John served honorably in the U.S. Army and later worked in the petroleum and agricultural industries in Kern County for over 30 years. He was a very patriotic man who loved spending time with his grandkids, fishing, watching classic films, listening to Dodger baseball on the radio, and playing guitar. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved his adopted home town of Paso Robles. He was a kind and gentle man who put the needs of others before his and could always be counted on to lighten the mood with a quote from a Mel Brooks movie. He was a loving husband and an amazing Dad & Papa. His tender, reassuring voice and continued encouragement to
"do what you love"
will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles from 5pm-8pm with a Rosary at 6:30pm on Friday, January 13th. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Paso Robles at 10:30 am on

Dear Jennifer, John and Michael,
I am so sorry you lost your dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know you will miss him. He was a good dad and helped your mom raise 3 incredible, beautiful children.
God Bless you all,

Johnny was a great dad and a hard worker. He would take Jennifer to McDonald's for breakfast on sat mornings when she was a baby while I was at work. I remember he would watch her and change her diapers himself instead of taking her to a babysitter. We had 3 fabulous kids that never gave us any trouble growing up. Johnny learned to cook so that when they were hungry ( while I was at work) he fed them. His speciality was spaghetti. He attended EVERY game and was shy about going to Jennifer hula dances because he didn't want to get picked to participate to dance. He was very proud of our 3 kids and would remind them to spent and enjoy their children as they would grow up fast as they did. Johnny you will always be in our hearts and you will never be forgotten.

I first became acquainted with Johnny when we played on the same Little League Baseball team in Bakersfield in the 1950's. I liked him immediately because of his quiet yet friendly demeanor. Although small in stature, he was a very good baseball player. I'm unsure whether he would remember me. It doesn't matter. When I saw and read his obit it brought back good memories of him and reaffirmed what a good man he was. My condolences to the Romero Family. RIP Johnny !!
