Charles T. BASSLER Sr.

BASSLER SR. , Charles T. On May 20, 2013 Charles T. Bassler, Sr., of Catonsville, MD passed away. Beloved husband of the late Peggy Louise Bassler; devoted father of Wayne Bassler and his wife, Patty, Ralph Bassler,
Elizabeth Fandel and her husband, Tom and the late Charles T. Bassler, Jr.; loving grandfather of Katie Bassler, Molly, Tommy, and Jeremy Fandel. Charlie was born and raised in Catonsville, Maryland. His love of golf began at age 14 as a Rolling Road Golf Club caddie. In 1941, he won the club championship. During World War II, he served with the First Marines in Okinawa and Peleu. Soon after returning stateside in 1946, he turned professional as an assistant to Robert Barnett at Chevy Chase Club. Charlie was elected to membership in The PGA in 1948. He was the head PGA Professional at Rolling Road GC (1948 through 1958), Turf Valley CC (1959 through 1960), and Indian Spring CC where he remained until his retirement in 1981. He spent the last three decades spending time with his family. He enjoyed one last round of golf last September at age 91.
