Gus Charles HAYES

HAYES , Gus Charles Gus Charles Hayes, 89 of Sebring, Florida passed away peacefully on January 31, 2013. He was born in Baltimore, MD and retired to Florida in 1981 after selling his business located on Frederick Ave, Irvington, MD. Gus served in the US Army as a demolition expert during WWII. Beloved father to children, Barbara McCadam and Susan McCaughey of FL, Pauline Buxton and Charles Hayes of MD, sons-in-law, David McCadam of FL, James Buxton of MD, daughter-in-law, Sharon Hayes of MD. Loving grandfather to Brian Smith of Sebring, FL, Chuck Hayes, Grant Hammond of MD, and Yvonne Hammond of FL. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Christy Lynn Lawton, brothers Edward and John Hayes, and son-in-law John McCaughey. Three great-grandchildren, Madison Anne Smith, Kody Smith of Sebring, FL, and J.B. Smith of Atlanta, GA. He was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gus loved fishing and gardening and will be missed by all. Also, thanks to Hope and Good Shepherd Hospice for all their help and support and a special thank you to my daughter-in-law, Susan Smith, who provided loving care to my dad at the end of his life.
Family will receive friends at the family-owned MACNABB FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 301 Frederick Rd., Catonsville (at beltway exit 13), 410-747-4770, on Friday, February 8 from 5-8pm. Trisagion Service at 7:30pm. Gus will lie in state from 9-9:30am on Saturday, February 9 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 W. Preston St., Baltimore, MD 21201. Burial service to follow at the Greek Cemetery located at 5917 Windsor Mill Road, Baltimore, MD 21207.
