On Monday, March 4, 2013, Jesse E. Forton , 89, of Glen Rock, PA. Born May 13, 1923 in Baltimore to the late Jesse Joseph and Mary Lillian (Iglehart) Forton. Husband of the late Audrey A. (Sands) Forton; father of Joseph J. Forton and his wife Claudia E. of Sykesville, Michael W. Forton and his wife Mary of Finksburg, Agnes L. McCready and her husband Michael P. of Westminster, Raymond G. Forton and his wife Suzanne R. Herbert-Forton of Catonsville and Brian E. Forton and his wife Kathy of Glen Rock, PA; grandfather of Vance Forton and his wife Donna, Kurt Forton and his wife Kris, Erin Copp and her husband Christian, Carly Richmond and her husband Ben, Lisa Forton and her companion Devin, Kimberly McCready, Lauren McCready, Katie Forton, Jessica Hubbell and her husband Kevin and Ariel Adami; great-grandfather of Chase, Liam, Haileigh and Aubrie; brother of Hazel Moore and her husband Alfred of Chesapeake, VA. In addition to his late wife and parents, Jesse was preceded in death by brothers Arthur and Harold Forton. Jesse was a United States Army
Veteran of WWII
having served in the Pacifc Theater where he maintained and repaired aircraft. He returned to Baltimore after the war and worked for one year at the former Schenuit Tire & Rubber, Co. in Baltimore. Jesse than took a job as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service at the Hamilton and Catonsville post offices where he retired after 44 years of devoted service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in New Freedom, PA and was a former member of St. Joseph's Monastery Parish in Irvington and St. Agnes Catholic Church in Catonsville where he served as president of the Holy Name Society. Jesse was also a member of the Knights Of Columbus Patapsco Council in Catonsville. Jesse enjoyed repairing, restoring and tuning pianos. He also enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his rose bushes.
A Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11 AM on Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 6-8 PM at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jesse's name can be made to the Maryland School for the Blind, 3501 Taylor Ave., Baltimore, MD 21236.
