On April 27, 2013 PEGGY JANE NELSON (nee HIPKINS) of Bel Air, MD, passed away at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD at the age of 71 from complications from a fall. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Harold Nelson; her son Mark Nelson and wife Mary Beth of Bel Air, her son Christopher Nelson and wife Kristin of Kirkland, Washington; her sister Patricia Owings and husband Barry Owings of Midlothian, VA; and six cherished grandchildren Laura, Elizabeth, Eli, Isaac, Sylvie, and Ellery. Peggy had a history of helping others as a teacher at School 227 in St. Helena in Baltimore City, as a volunteer at Bel Air Elementary School, and as a library technician at Hickory Elementary School. Peggy returned to college in the 1980s and earned a degree in psychology at Towson State University. Following graduation, she worked for the Community Counseling and Resource Center in Cockeysville, MD, counseling drug abuse clients, and then was a volunteer at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, giving over 1000 hours working with cancer patients. As a breast cancer
survivor she was keenly aware of the needs of other women. She was an avid reader and especially liked Ann Tyler's books which were based in Baltimore. Peggy loved the theater and was a long time subscriber to Center Stage in Baltimore. Peggy's body has been donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board.
