Celebration on June 16, 2014 Rhoda M. Dorsey, the eighth president of Goucher College and the first woman to hold that post, passed away on May 10 in her Cockeysville apartment. To honor her life and work, Goucher will hold a celebration on Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m. in Kraushaar Auditorium. Dr. Dorsey came to Goucher in 1954 as an assistant professor of history. She became academic dean of the college in 1968 and was named acting president in 1973. She took on the job permanently in 1974 and served until retiring in 1994. Dr. Dorsey earned a BA from Smith College; a BA and an MA from Newnham College in Cambridge, England; and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota
. Dr. Dorsey leaves a sister, Frances Dorsey Cobb, of Hartford, CT.
