Loving husband, father, singer and train enthusiast, Richard "Dick" Preston Knight, 82, of Barnstable, MA, passed away on March 4, 2013 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA after a short illness. Dick met his wife Alma on a blind date (with his late brother, Dan, and his wife Pam in attendance). Dick's chief passions included singing, most recently with the Chatham Chorale, and trains. He rode old steam trains, built an impressive model train layout in his basement, and became an engineer on the Cape Cod Scenic Railroad. He also loved bird watching, bodysurfing and was a master chef when it came to blueberry pancakes. His immediate family includes: children Kathryn (Michael), Carol (Pete), Dana (Wendy), and Warren (Christy); grandchildren, Nora, Brandon K., Georgia, Luisa, Tony, Sammy and Brandon M. Dick was a Civil Engineering graduate of Purdue University
. His career included stops at the Air Force, Boeing, 22 years at Bethlehem Steel and 10 years at Dynamic Isolation Systems. He will be dearly missed. His life is chronicled in the annual Christmas "Knight Letter" that he authored over the last 50 years.
The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life at the church where he and Alma were married: The Old South Union Church, 25 Columbian Street, Weymouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service road, East Sandwich, MA 02537 or the Chatham Chorale, PO Box 1111, West Dennis, MA 03670.
