John Halley Obituary



On October 18, 2013, John Thomas Halley, Jr. passed away. John was born October 7, 1930 in Providence, RI to the late John T. Halley and Catherine Ryan Halley. He attended Mount Pleasant High School in Rhode Island, graduating class of 1948. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces and was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning home, he continued his education attending Brown University, graduating in 1958. Mr. Halley began working for the Security Administration in New Britton, Conn., until being transferred to Baltimore, MD into the new data processing industry with The Computer Usage Company. He worked for other Information Technology firms in the area, until beginning with Alexander and Alexander, an insurance brokerage firm in 1971. In 1976, he became vice president of the firm and later retired in 1994. In 1957, Mr. Halley married Rosalie Duggan. She later predeceased him in 1991. On May 24, 1992, he married Maryalice Smith and resided in Catonsville. In 2001, they moved to Easton. Mr. Halley was past vice chairman of SCORE and was transferred to the Easton chapter, upon moving there, retiring as chairman in 2004. He is also active with the crew educator committee for the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, president of the Hyde Parkers Club, and member of the Marine Corp. League~Choptank attachment in Cambridge. In addition to his wife, Maryalice, he is survived by two sons, John Halley, III and Paul Halley; four stepchildren, Thomas, Tim and Michael Mooney and Colleen Dans; one brother, Edward Halley; two sisters, Margaret DiPietro and Catherine Selke; ten grandchildren, Brittany Halley-Stout, Joshua Halley, Ezekiel Halley, Nathaniel Halley, Kellie Mooney, Katherine Mooney, Daniel Mooney, Sarah Dans and Tyler Dans; and great grandchildren, Jacob and Logan Stout.

The family will receive friends at the family owned Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Tuesday, October 22, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, October 23, at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center. Interment will be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
