Ruth M. EDWARDS Notice
EDWARDS , Ruth M. On November 5, Ruth M.
Edwards , 90, a resident of Riviera Beach since 1946, died at her home. She was born in Baltimore February 18, 1922. For the last seven years, Ruth was fortunate to have her granddaughter, Kim, and her family living with her to help in any way she needed. Ruth was a homemaker caring for her six children until the death of her husband Richard M. Edwards in 1969. She then went back to school and earned her Teachers Assistant Certificate at Anne Arundel Community College. She was a blessing to so many children in the Head Start Program until her retirement at age 71. The schools that were honored to have her on their staff were Riviera Beach Elementary, High Point Elementary, Severn Elementary and Harman Elementary. Since her retirement Ruth has enjoyed her passion of gardening. She joined the Bent Twig Garden Club in Catonsville having been invited by her sister-in-law Molly E. Hagel. Ruth would work in her own gardens from sun up to sun down and then by the light of the moon or street light. Neighbors passing by would always stop to chat and admire the work of her green thumb which she also had indoors. Ruth also greatly enjoyed living by the water; she had an awesome view of the Patapsco River. How wonderful it was that her children, when they were young, could swim in the water all day just about every day during the summer months. She was so concerned when the water became polluted and the beaches were washed away. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Richard M. Edwards, her daughter Jean Edwards Bartolomeo and her son
Kenneth F. Edwards. She is survived by her son Richard 'Dick' Edwards, and his wife Kathy of Alexandria, VA and her three daughters Carolyn Edwards of Lorton, VA, Katie Edwards of Glen Burnie and Diane Edwards Kilby and her husband Phil of Abingdon, son-in-law Roy Bartolomeo of Arnold and daughter-in-law Tina Edwards of Gahanna, OH; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Donations in Ruth's name may be made to your local Humane Society or The Chesapeake Bay Foundation at 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403 Attn: Membership Dept. or online at www.CBF.org.
