I am deeply saddened about the passing of Walt, and my heart and prayers are with you and his loved ones. Walt was a friend and colleague for many years. He was an outstanding inspiration and example to everyone on the RAMS Management Committee and in the reliability community and he will be missed. I worked in Walt's group at Westinghouse and Northrop Grumman and knew him for over 20 years. I am very sad to hear of his passing. I attended some of his reliability engineering presentations and they were always excellent and were usually made more enjoyable with his own special brand of humor. I will miss him.

Walt and the family have been dear friends and neighbors of ours for many many years. Whenever we needed help he was always there. Most of time he just knew he was needed and would lend a helping hand. When my husband and I had surgery at the same time many years ago, Walt mowed our lawn without even asking us. I still remember ambling to the window after hearing a lawn mower and seeing him out there working hard with a smile on his face. That was the type of kind and considerate man he was. We will miss his smiling face and cheerful voice. Love, Carlton and Bernice Whelchel

We are deeply saddened to hear about your loss. I consider it an honor to have known Walt professionally through RAMS and personally as a friend. His name is his legacy, as Walt was always "willing" to help anyone in need. He will be missed by the RAMS family. Rest assured we will keep your family in our prayers.

This is very sad for me personally, and reminds me how ephemeral life can be. I knew Walt from RAMS where he served with capable mansuetude. He was someone I could count on for balance; never political or selfish, but always more interested in beneficent service. He was a sagacious and distinguished editor. My heart goes out to Walt's family for his untimely passing.
The day of ones death is more meaningful than their birth because you know what kind of a person they were; however it makes the event more poignant. Nobody is perfect, but for me Walt was exemplary as a professional and as a man.

My husband and I have been praying for Walt and the family. We will miss seeing him walking around the neighborhood and hearing his cheerful voice. Walt holds a special place in my heart and always will. Whenever I returned to the neighborhood to visit my parents and would run into him he always stopped to ask me how I was doing and always cared so much about my answer.
