Betty Jane Corbin Shehan Notice


On August 3, 2015, after a long battle with injuries sustained in a fall, Betty Jane Corbin Shehan of Salisbury, Maryland, finally went to meet her God, she was 90 years of age. Betty Jane was the daughter of Maurice E. Corbin and Carrie Doeller Corbin and at the time of her birth she and her family lived in Woodbine, Maryland, eventually relocating to what they considered the family home on East University Parkway in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a 1944 graduate of the Girls Latin School and upon graduation was employed by the McCormick Company, which at that time was located in what is now the Inner Harbor of Baltimore. In 1949, Betty Jane met a young man by the name of William Henry Shehan, Jr, who was the grandson of the past Mayor of Baltimore Howard W. Jackson. In 1950 they were married and established homes in Hereford, Chestertown, Elkridge and Salisbury, Maryland. This union resulted in five children. Betty Jane dedicated her life to her husband, Buff, and her five children. During her spare time she found time to be a teacher's aide (Elkridge Elementary School, Howard County, Maryland), and was President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, Howard County, Maryland. The final place that Betty Jane called home was Salisbury, Maryland. She applied for a position at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and was employed there until 1991 when she retired. Not finished yet she volunteered for another 15 years and compiled over 10,000 hours of volunteer service, stopping in 2006, due to health issues. She was a member of the AARP and a communicant of St. John's Methodist Church both located in Salisbury. She was predeceased by her husband William H. Shehan Jr., her brother, Maurice E. Corbin and her sister, Carlyn Corbin Draisey. She is survived by her children, Ginny Stickles (Leslie), Judy Wheeler (Joseph), Jane Shehan, Bill Shehan (Carrie), and JoAnne Kelly (Bob), grandchildren Christopher Stickles, Brandon Stickles (Laura), Marc Benson, Matthew Wheeler (Bonnie), Summer VanZandt (Christopher), and John Shehan; great grandchildren, Izaak Stickles, Colin Stickles, Jackson Stickles, Alyssa Stickles, Austin Stickles, and Hannah VanZandt. A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church, Fruitland Maryland on August 8, 2015 at 1:00. Internment Private.
