Rev. Charles Carroll Eads Notice

The Rev. Charles Carroll Eads passed away peacefully Sep 17, 2016. Having grown up in Baltimore City, he was a longtime Harford County resident; on retirement he moved to Swanton, Md where he resided for 22 years. Carroll was an exceptional student, skipping 2 grades in Baltimore City Public Schools and being awarded a Senatorial Scholarship to the Univ of Md. He entered Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va and was ordained in 1946. Although he hoped to be a chaplain in the armed forces, Bishop Rt. Rev. Powell assigned him to 3 Episcopal churches in Harford County, Md.-Holy Cross, Christ Church, and a chapel in Hickory, Md (which closed a year later). After ministering in these churches for 48 years, he retired at age 70 as the longest serving priest in the Md. Episcopal Diocese. Carroll was the third of 4 brothers, the eldest two passing away at young ages. Carroll and his brother, Bob, traveled extensively in the U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. After Bob married Jeanne and had 3 daughters, the 6 of them continued to travel with a pop-up camper towed behind Carroll's station wagon. Carroll enjoyed a life filled with fun and wonderful experiences. Carroll is survived by brother, Robert Gordon Cooper Eads, 3 nieces - Carol Ann Schexnayder, Deborah E. Greene, Pamela E. Vecella, 2 grandnieces and 1 grandnephew. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church 4710 Route 24, Street, Maryland 21154 on Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the educational scholarships Carroll set up: The Wilson Scholarship at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 103 Street, Maryland 21154, or The Eads Scholarship at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 301 South Mineral Street, Keyser, West Virginia 26726.
