Charles Hedrick Notice

Charles M. Hedrick, 92, of Salisbury, Maryland, and a resident of Lakeside Assisted Living, died peacefully in his sleep on November 24, surrounded by his family. Born March 2, 1924 in Baltimore, he was the son of Wilbur and Grace Hedrick and brother of Harry Hedrick. He was the husband of Doris (Dee) L. Hedrick, whom he married in 1946. He served in World War II in The Philippines and New Guinea in a Radar Unit that tracked the flights of Japanese Bombers. After the war, he worked for the B&O Railroad, and later for AAI Corp in Cockeysville where he worked on technology for emergency ejection seats for military planes and for the Telstar I satellite that enabled the first transatlantic television broadcasts between Europe and the United States and holds several patents. He moved his family to Salisbury in 1970 to work with Dresser Industries. Later, he became a residential real estate agent, serving Salisbury and Ocean Pines. He was an avid walker and logged thousands of miles at the original Salisbury Mall and at The Centre. After moving to Mallard Landing with his wife in 2000, he and Dee welcomed many prospective and new residents to Mallard Landing as Resident Ambassadors. He also served as a volunteer bartender for the resident Happy Hours on Wednesday afternoons. Surviving are: daughters and sons-in-law Kathleen and Skip Case of Oxford, Md and Andrea and Stephen Williams of Quantico, Md. The family will hold a private ceremony.
