Charles "Mike" Mooney

1930 - 2015 Notice Condolences

Former Baltimore County Fire Dept. Chief Deputy Charles "Mike" Mooney passed away Dec 23, 2015 at age 85. The former Arbutus resident served Balto. County Fire Dept. for 32 yrs. Chief Mooney was instrumental in creating the county's disaster plan that was later used on the Amtrak crash in Chase, MD in 1987. Mike served in the army Signal Corps in the Korean War. He started as a volunteer firefighter at the Landsdowne VFD, where he was a life member, at age 12 during WWII because no men were left in town due to the war. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Mae Zepp, who passed in 2008, and survived by his second wife, Susan Hall. He is the beloved father of Cynthia L. Nivala and her husband Gregg, Sandra A. Noratel and her husband Vernon and Steven C. Mooney and his wife Laura. He is the brother of Robert Lewis Mooney and the late Margaret Elaine Wheeler and James Donald Mooney. He is the grandfather of Deirdre, Robert, Jessica, P. Michael, Lauren, Jacob and David, and great-grandfather to Kathryn and Charlie. Funeral services will be held at Gary L.
