Charles "Ray" Somerlock Notice

Charles Raymond "Ray" Somerlock of Glenelg, Maryland, passed away on August 17, 2016, of complications due to leukemia. Ray was born February 28, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Charles Marion and Hilda Edith Somerlock, and grew up in Arbutus, Maryland. Ray had a long and varied career, as an aerospace communications engineer, director of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and computer forensics examiner. He worked for NASA, TRW, Mitre Corporation, General Dynamics, and the Baltimore County Police Crime Lab. His interests included genealogy, science, classical music, and the great passion of his life, flying. After years of flying "straight and level," he took up aerobatics at age 65. Ray is survived by his sister, Linda Bradley, children Sheila Ruth, Carl Somerlock, John Kressler Jr., and Robin Taub, and grandchildren David Ruth, Evan Taub, Max Somerlock, and Brandon Taub. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, at 10:00am at Loudon Park Cemetery Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229, followed by a celebration of his life at 12:00 noon at 3673 Sharp Rd, Glenwood, MD 21738. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Ray Somerlock may be directed to support leukemia research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University.
