Elizabeth M. Dunn Notice

Elizabeth Monroe Dunn (Mrs. Jack B. Dunn, IV) passed away on March 20, 2016 at her home in Ocean Reef, Florida. She was 65. Elizabeth was born on May 6, 1950 to Elmer and Evelyn Monroe in Ithaca, New York where her father taught at Cornell University and her mother had been one of its first female graduates. Her parents' families were steeped in the traditions of the founding of America going back to the Ark and Dove and the first families of Virginia and Maryland, and Elizabeth enjoyed the sharing of this rich history among family members. In 1956, the family moved to Newark Delaware where her father joined the Dupont Company and she grew up. Elizabeth graduated from Newark High School and attended Randolph Macon Women's college before graduating from Muhlenberg College in 1972 and the University of Maryland Law School in 1982 with highest honors and as a member of its Law Review. Elizabeth married Jack Dunn in 1976 and was not only a guiding spirit but a hands-on participant and contributor in the building of FTI Consulting, Inc, into a Baltimore-based billion dollar international consulting company. At the same time she practiced tax and municipal financing law in the private and public sectors on a full-time basis, where her intelligence, enthusiasm, energy, meticulous attention to detail, incredible work ethic, wonderful people skills and good spirit combined to make her a unique, effective and popular advocate. In 1992 Elizabeth retired from practice to follow her dream pursuit, that of being a full-time mother, with the birth of her son Jack B. Dunn, V. She devoted those same skills that had made her so successful at law into being a most loving mother who was active in every phase of his life. From school and social activities, to sports and community service, she was a leader, organizer and generous contributor in all that he did. Elizabeth loved children, and was devoted to her granddaughter Zoey and great nephew Brendan. She also enjoyed travel, reading, walking, playing with her two dogs, Susie and CoCo, her homes in Bethany Beach, Delaware and Ocean Reef, Florida, and her clubs, Elkridge, Card Sound and Green Spring. Most of all, however, whether it was every afternoon at the "dog park" at her home in Ocean Reef, tenacious "Trivia" evenings at Card Sound or intimate dinners and lovely parties hosted by those dear to her, she loved anything that allowed her to enjoy and share life, love and good cheer with family and friends. She was tremendous at doing and caring for others, and left no one untouched. In addition to her husband, her son, his wife Abbie and granddaughter Zoey, Elizabeth is survived by her dear siblings Cindy, Melody and Tom and their spouses, Jack's mother, sister and brother-in-law, nephews Ben, Bobby, Joe, Daniel and Aaron, great nephew Brendan and great niece Anna. She was especially close to her nieces Meredith, Amy and Kim and often shared with them as the daughters she always wanted, and with her nephew Brad. Whether it was a generous contribution, a volunteering of her labor or her knowledge, or an outpouring of her love, Elizabeth was always there. She was an exceptional person and an exceptional influence on so many lives. Burial services and interment will be private, but a memorial service is being planned for later in the year. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, consideration be made of a gift to Camp Puh 'Tok in Monkton, Maryland, Paul's Place in Baltimore, Maryland or any local, state or national affiliate of Special Olympics.
