It seems like Shirley's passing not only forces us to say goodbye to our friend, colleague and teacher, but marks the end of an era. Goodbye Shirley and thank you

At UMMC Shirley was always the "go to person" for anything to do with the lab. As a co-worker she was always kind and friendly. Her courage and determination, regardless of the challenges that faced her were admirable. Shirley was a wonderful person who will be missed.

In Anatomic Pathology at UMMC, we all remember her as simply, Ms. Shirley. She was one of the sweetest and one of the most caring persons that I have ever known. She was the epitomy of the commitment to excellence. I will remember her always

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Shirley. Having been a nurse who has worked nights for 25 years at the University of Maryland Medical Center,I cannot think of a more supportive person to the nurses and patients than Shirley.I miss those 5 a.m. visits! She was always there when you needed her and has been missed since her retirement and even more so now in her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I am saddened. I also have been a nurse at UMMC since 1972 and always said that Shirley was the most customer service-oriented person here....way before it was in vogue. Shirley was a very special, caring lady with whom I shared many memories. I will never forget her.

From the time I arrived at University of Maryland Hospital in 1971, Shirley was a mentor and a special friend. We laughed many times together and she kept me sane or insane as the case might have been.
I will miss you and your strength and dedication to patient care.
