Eugene Hauver Brandenburg Notice

On July 12, 2016, Eugene Hauver (Gene) Brandenburg, 90, World War II United States Army veteran of Baltimore. Beloved husband of the late Leah (Buhrman) Brandenburg and son of the late Ray Samuel and Rae (Hauver) Brandenburg. Devoted father of sons Galen, Karl, Kurt, and daughter Dawn Dulaney and her husband, Phil, all of Baltimore. He is also survived by sisters, Betty Burgee of New Market, Md., Carolyn Fishack of Frederick, Md., Nancy Brandenburg and Julia Brandenburg, both of Foxville, Md., brothers Harold "Bill" Brandenburg, Sr. of Hagerstown, Md., and Arthur Brandenburg of Foxville, Md. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray S. Brandenburg, Jr. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and other family members. Gene attended the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He courageously served his country in World War II beginning in October 1943 through March 1946 as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division (the all-Americans), 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company A, under the command of Major General Reuben H. Tucker, III, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a good conduct medal and ribbons for his service in the American, European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters and a World War II victory ribbon. He retired from the Government Printing Office in 2000 and was a 50-year member of the International Typographical Union, Columbia Union No. 101, Washington, D.C. He enjoyed watching cooking shows-especially Rachel Ray and growing tomatoes in his backyard garden. He also enjoyed following the Ravens and the Orioles. Gene donated his body to the Maryland Anatomy Board. His life will be honored by friends and family at a memorial luncheon to be held at a future date.
