George Miller Notice

Mr. George Wilson Miller, "Bill", 83, died September 12, 2015. He was born March 20, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Hilda and Jacob Miller. After serving in the Army, Bill began his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) rising to become one of the top tax partners at Ernst & Young despite being the only partner without a college degree. Bill was married to the love of his life, Mary Ellen Kauffman, for 57 years after asking for her hand in marriage after only three dates. His marriage to Mary Ellen was the rock and foundation of his life. He was very proud of the two successful daughters they raised together, Barbara Pooley and Elizabeth (Libby) Kelligrew. Bill was admired for his quiet strength and leading by example. He believed in hard work, standing by his word, giving others credit, laughing out loud and having fun. Bill's other lifelong passion was golf. During his last round of golf at age 83, he shot his 6th hole-in-one. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Miller, daughter Barbara Miller Pooley, daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Kelligrew and her husband Jim Kelligrew, granddaughters Elizabeth Stryker Kelligrew and Isabel Kelligrew, grandson Jay Kelligrew, sister Jeanne Lambdin, nephews Robert and Keith Lambdin and niece Holly Battle. A private memorial service will be held. Friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 2743 Beretania Circle. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Bill was a friend and patron of both the Brookstone School in Charlotte and the USO of North Carolina. Donations can be made to the Bill Miller Memorial at Brookstone, c/o Brookstone School, PO Box 667890, Charlotte, NC 28266 or online at: https://brookstoneschools.org or the USO of North Carolina, 5501 Josh Birmingham Parkway, P.O.
