WILEY , Gertrude On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Gertrude "Trudi" Wiley (nee Van Eerde), beloved wife of the late Dr. Andrew Thompson Wiley, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at Vantage House in Columbia. Trudi is survived by her daughter Kim Ciurej, and husband Ray; her sons Geoff Wiley and wife Cathy, Peter Wiley, and wife Julie; daughter-in-law Diane Wiley; and grandchildren, Nick, Pat and Joe Ciurej, and Chris, Catie, Andy, Emily and Maddy Wiley. Trudi was predeceased by her son Mark S. Wiley in Dec. 2012. Trudi was born in Pittman, NJ in 1924. She attended University of Colorado, and Bryn Mawr College where she got her Masters Degree in Social Work. Trudi married Andrew in 1953, and they were American Friends Service Committee volunteers in Pusan, Korea from 1953-1955. They also served with the Peace Corps from 1968 to 1970 in Tonga. Trudi and Andy returned from Tonga and settled in the newly established community of Columbia, where she has resided for the last 43 years. Along with raising her family, Trudi was employed as an adoption counselor, social worker, and a registered nurse. She has been a resident of Vantage House for the past 17 years.
Family will receive friends at a Celebration of Trudi's Life on Sunday, March 24, from 2-4pm at Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trudi's honor to Gilchrist Hospice Care.
