Rev.  Henry Thomas FOLEY Notice


Henry Thomas Foley, a 40 year Timonium resident, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at the age of 87. Rev. Foley, a native of Florida, was the son of Henry Thomas Foley, a Methodist minister, and Willie Wash Foley, a teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Chaplain's Assistant, attended Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J. and graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Education from Florida State University. After teaching public school in Florida and Puerto Rico, he entered Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia, where he received his Master's of Divinity Degree. While attending Columbia he met his wife of 58 years, Jean Claire Crosland, who died October 2013. He was ordained to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church, USA and called to the First Presbyterian Church, McGehee, Arkansas in April 1957, where he served for six years. During his pastorate at the First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Missouri, he earned a Masters of Sacred Theology Degree from St. Luke's School of Theology, Sewanee, Tennessee and pursued post graduate work at San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Presbyterian Institute of Industrial Relations. In 1968 he was called to serve as Protestant Chaplain at John F. Kennedy International Airport by the council of Churches of the City of New York. He also served as interim pastor for Covenant Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. In 1973, he left New York for a management position with a chemical company in Baltimore. In 1977, he went to work for Presbyterian Ministers Fund, where he worked for 12 years, and retired as a Vice President and Regional Manager. During and after his work in business, from 1977 to 2004 he served as a Parish Associate at Towson Presbyterian Church. He also served as President of Trustees for the Presbytery of Baltimore, and was a member of the General Assembly's Mission Committee. Following his retirement, Rev. Foley continued for many years served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Presbyterian Homes, Inc. Rev. Foley, is survived by his four children, Jane Foley Wagner, Henry (Hank) Thomas Foley, Jr., Claire Foley Sunday and James Alexander Foley. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Dulany Crosland Wagner, Caroline Alexander Wagner, Rebecca Stuart Sunday, Thomas Stuart Sunday, Sarah Stuart Sunday, Grace Suzanne Foley, Henry Thomas Foley IV, and Micah Alexander Foley, and also by his sister Jane Ester Foley and brother David Wash Foley. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 1 PM at Towson Presbyterian Church. Following this service of "Witness to the Resurrection" a reception will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Chesapeake Ave., Towson, MD, 21204.
