July 4, 1933 to October 28, 2015 Affectionately known by his friends as "Buzz", he was raised in Lutherville, MD attending the Boys Latin School of Maryland. Buzz was a three sport athlete at Boys Latin. He was captain of the 1950 football team and member of the 1951 IAC Championship basketball team. Buzz was also selected to the first team all-MSA as a defenseman his senior year in lacrosse in 1951, and was honored with receiving the Alumni Cup for his "outstanding leadership, based on character". He then attended college at Johns Hopkins University where he excelled on the football and lacrosse fields. He was a Captain of the lacrosse team his senior year and earned All- American Honors as a defenseman in 1954 and 1955. Buzz was an active member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the ROTC. Following college he served as a Lieutenant in the US Army. Buzz was a successful commercial banker with the Mercantile Bank and Trust Company in Baltimore, MD, and proudly retired as a Senior Vice President after 40 years of service. He was an active member of the Maryland Club, and served on numerous community boards and committees. He helped start the Ruxton-Riderwood youth lacrosse program, and served on the committee to bring the World Lacrosse Championships to Baltimore in 1982. He was also an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He was preceded in life by his mother Margaret and father Herbert B., and is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rozanne, his sister Peggy Nelson, his children Daphne Ackaway, Stuart Williams, Peter Williams, his step children Stephen Jordan, Martin Jordan, Cassandra Hamblen, and Caroline Jordan, daughters-in-law Daryl Williams and Sarah Williams, son-in-law Mitchell Ackaway, step daughters-in-law Anne Jordan and Laura Jordan, step son-in-law Don Hamblen, grandchildren Nicholas Williams, Hayden Williams, Grantham Williams, Davis Williams, Grayson Ackaway, Ashley Ackaway, and step grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 21, 2015 at 12:00pm in the St. Martins in the Field Episcopal Church 375 Benfield Rd. Severna Park, MD 21146 with burial in the church memorial garden following the service. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the burial.
