On February 24, 2016, James Vincent Casey tragically passed away; devoted husband of Darlene Putman, beloved son of the late Patrick and Winifred (nee O'Donnell) Casey, loving brother of the late Eugene Casey, the late Virginia Mulhollen, the late John Casey, the late Winifred Emge and the late Helen Meyers. Dear stepfather of Gary and wife Carole Lee Putman, and Bruce and wife Marilyn Putman, grandfather of Kelly Jara, Brent Putman, Brian Putman and Marion Putman and great-grandfather of Marisa and Alec Jara, and Bradley, MacKenzie and Andrew Putman. Cherished uncle of Patricia Sibayan, Winifred Nancy Jara, John Casey, Janet Ozenbaugh, Kathleen Thompson, Mary Bayless, Michael Casey and Mary Wheeler. Also survived by many great nieces and nephews. James Casey was an Air Force veteran. He owned and operated Casey's Pub for seven years, and later was an administrator with ASCAP International. He joined the University of Baltimore staff in 1971 as an assistant to Frank Szymanski to organize, coordinate and manage recruitment for all eight of their athletic teams. For 12 years, the Bees had one of the top Division II men's programs in the country. He eventually assumed roles as assistant athletic director and associate basketball coach in addition to his duties as director of recruitment. His reputation as a great recruiter continued in 1990 when he joined Loyola University as assistant coach to Patty Coyle. In 2009, James Casey was inducted into UB's Athletic Hall of Fame. Friends may call at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Rd. (Beltway Exit 26), Sunday, February 28 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Clements, 1212 Chesaco Ave., Rosedale, Monday, February 29 at 10:45 am. Interment will be in Parkwood Cemetery.
