James Cosby Notice

James Reginald Cosby (Jim) was called by Jesus to Heaven on Thursday, May 12th, 2016 from Brightwater Retirement Community, Myrtle Beach, SC which he called home for the last decade. Born in Richmond, VA September 2nd, 1916 a graduate of the University of Richmond, and with a Masters in Physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, he married Vennie Alice Underwood in 1940. They made their home in Towson, MD for 60 years. Vennie predeceased him more than a decade ago. He is survived by his son, James Lynwood (Jim) and his wife Abigail of Lutherville, MD, and daughter, Patricia (Penny) Cosby Crawford of Little River, SC. Daughter, Linda Lee Cosby predeceased him. From a large Richmond family, Jim is survived by one brother Mnsgr. Roscoe Roy Cosby of Rockville, VA; a sister Elizabeth Patricia, also of Rockville; a sister Lucille Ardel SNC of Lexington, KY; a sister Angeline Geneviere Cosby Davis and her husband; and a sister in law Maria Cosby, beloved wife of his brother, Lynwood Anthony Cosby, (deceased) of Front Royal, VA. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Siblings who predeceased him are: Clifton Bernard, Ida Madeline, Evelyn Linda, Lynwood Anthony, Algar Hubert, and Andrew Howard Cosby. His career as an engineer moved him from Richmond, VA to Watermill, NY with Western Union, then to Towson, MD with Bendix Friez Division where he worked for 40 years. Jim was an engineer (meteorological physicist) and multitalented man. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus, his family and friends. During his years at Brightwater he has enjoyed the company of a sweet and loyal friend, Cynthia Swanson. He enjoyed HAM radio (WA3TTY), repairing American antique clocks, classical music and photography. A Memorial Eucharist Service will be held on Tuesday, June 28th 2016 in the Health Center Dining Room at Brightwater Retirement Community. A reception, poolside will follow. Please join Jim and Penny who also hope to thank the health workers: janitorial, kitchen, CNAs, physical therapists and nurses who have cared for their Dad the past year at this reception. He has had wonderful care and is now where we all long to be. Another service for family will be held in Richmond, VA this summer, and Mr. Cosby will be interred in Dulaney Gardens in Timonium, MD on the 100th anniversary of his birth, September 2nd, 2016.
