MURNANE, JR. , Jeremiah T. Jeremiah (Jerry) T. Murnane, Jr. of Perry Hall died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson surrounded by his loving family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Family and friends may call at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Rd. (Beltway Exit 26) on Saturday, September 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Monday, September 23 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 24 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ.
Mr. Murnane leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret Tierney Murnane; his sons, Jeremiah III and wife Katherine, and Michael; daughters Susan Dyckman and husband Robert, and Alison Smith and husband Thomas; and grandchildren Megan, Kelly, Bobby, Abby, Patrick, Emily, Jeremiah IV and Caroline. Born November 6, 1930 in Baltimore, Mr. Murnane was the eldest son of Jeremiah T. Murnane, Sr. and Ruth Herman Murnane. He is survived by his brother, Daniel and was predeceased by his brother Timothy.
After graduating from Loyola Blakefield in 1948, Mr. Murnane attended Loyola College of Maryland,
graduating in 1952. Upon graduation, Jerry entered the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Captain.
Following an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Mr. Murnane enjoyed a successful sales career, retiring in 1993 as Vice President and General Manager of the Flavor Division of Haarmann & Reimer, a
subsidiary of Bayer AG. Mr. and Mrs. Murnane enjoyed an active retirement in Perry Hall, MD after raising their family in Caldwell, NJ.
Mr. Murnane was a longstanding member of the Parents Support Group in Summit, NJ; served as a literacy tutor at the South Baltimore Learning Center, MD; and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Parkville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parents Support Group, 271 W. Northfield Road, Livingston, NJ 07039 or Catholic Charities of Baltimore, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
