John Ryan Holthaus Notice

On November 9, 2016 , John Ryan Holthaus passed away at the age of 85. He was the eldest son of Emmett R. Holthaus and Mary Ryan Holthaus. "Jack" lived a full and rewarding life. Jack was a proud alum of Loyola Blakefield High School. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was an environmental engineer with the State of Maryland after graduating from the University of Baltimore. He was also a trainer for the "Baltimore Bullets" in the 1960's and was granted a patent for a device, he invented for athletic trainers. He was an avid sports enthusiast ; he played basketball, softball and golf. As a golfer he traveled the world playing golf in some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. Jack was known for his great sense of humor , storytelling and great delivery of a punch line. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved brothers; F. Rhody Holthaus, James M. Holthaus and Louis M. Holthaus. Jack is survived by his devoted sister, Mary Alice Byrnes, and brothers Joseph E. Holthaus and Father Paul G. Holthaus. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews; Mary Elizabeth Harkins, Mary Carmel Buckey, Mary Eileen Lorenz, Mary Bridget Quinn, Katherine McPhee, Rhody Holthaus, Elizabeth Holthaus, Jack Holthaus, and many great nieces and nephews. On Friday, November 11, 2016 family and friends may call at Gonce's Funeral Home in Riviera Beach, Maryland from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Jane Frances Catholic Church in Pasadena, Maryland at 12:00pm, on Saturday, November 12, 2016. The interment will follow in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore , Maryland.
