Joseph Prager Notice

At 86 years of age, Joseph Anthony Prager, Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on November 24, 2015 at Calvert Memorial Hospital after a myocardial infarction. Joe was born on January 21, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of Joseph A. Prager, Sr. and Anna "Kitty" Wootten Prager. Joe grew up in the old Saint Martin's Church area of Baltimore. He attended and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in 1947. At St. Mt. Joe, he played basketball and his favorite sport, lacrosse. Joe also participated in weekly dances and other events at the Cahill Recreation Center. According to the yearbook, he was the "self-proclaimed mayor of Cahill". He was also a graduate of the University of Baltimore. He married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Ann Dean. They were married for 56 years before her passing in 2005. They had 2 sons: Michael and Dean. After graduating from high school, he went to work in the sales division of Carr Lowrey Glass Company, a glass container manufacturer located in the Westport area of Baltimore, Maryland. He rose up thru the ranks and after 40+ years, he retired as a regional sales manager. He handled several major accounts during his tenure including Avon and Proctor & Gamble. He spent 16 years running the Cincinnati, Ohio sales office before bringing the family back to Baltimore in 1982. A man is lucky to find love once in his life, but twice is blessing. After the passing of his wife Dolores in 2005, he met Anne-Marie Baikauskas. They shared a life of travel, winter vacationing in Florida and many, many good times & laughter over the next 10 years. Joey, as Anne-Marie affectionately called him, was also blessed to enjoy the company of her 4 grandchildren. In addition to living in Baltimore and Cincinnati, he resided in the Maryland cities of Millersville, Severna Park and Annapolis. His favorite hobbies included golf, dancing, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, the Maryland Terrapins and international travel. During his 86 years of traveling, he visited Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada and ¾ of the Unites States. But his favorite place was always Maryland's own Ocean City. Other enjoyments included time with family and friends, especially if that time involved steamed crabs, raw oysters and good drinks like gin martinis and whiskey manhattans. Martinis were always his favorite. In fact, according to his life-long friend, Charles "Pete" Chandler, Joe loved martinis so much that he had a saying "if heaven ain't going to have martinis, then I ain't going!" Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dolores Dean Prager and his brother Robert "Bob" Prager. He is survived by his two sons Mike (his wife Linda) of Preston, MD and Dean (his wife Kathy) of Crofton, MD two grandchildren Danielle and Brittany, his sister-in-law Pat Prager and his companion Anne-Marie Baikauskas of Annapolis, MD, her children Mark (his wife Rachel) and Amy Dowling (her husband Greg), and her 4 grandchildren Autumn, Zachary, Austin and Willow. Joe left behind memories, stories, voice inflections and wisdom that will forever bring a smile and a laugh to those who knew him. A private Celebration of Joe's life will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015. Call 410-451-7357 for more details.
