Lee Wolpert Notice


Lee Wolpert quietly passed away on September 30th after a brief illness. Born December 31, 1925, he was 89 years old. He is survived by his son Jan, daughter-in-law Irene - both of Chatham, NJ, four adult grandsons - Daniel Cooper, Robert Cooper, Derek Wolpert and Joshua Wolpert, brothers Henry and Fred, and son-in-law Steve Cooper. He survived his beloved wife of 52 years, Toby, and beloved daughter, Susan. Lee was born and raised in Baltimore, a proud graduate of Baltimore's City College High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University (1949) and M.S. degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1955). He was a World War II veteran, honorably discharged in 1945. The bulk of his professional career was spent at Westinghouse Electric Corp (outside of Philadelphia) where he was involved in the design and engineering of complex steam turbine power generation systems. Lee and his family lived for over 40 years in the Brandywine Hundred section of suburban Wilmington, DE off of Veale Rd. in the cul-de-sac community of Meriden, and he always remarked that Wilmington "was a gem, the world's best kept secret". Lee was at various times a member of congregations Beth Shalom and Adesh Kodesh in Wilmington and Mikva Israel in the Old City section of Philadelphia. Since 2005, he has lived in Whippany, NJ to be near his son's family. His family will miss him.
