Micheleen McNeill Notice

Micheleen McNeill, 74, of Baltimore, MD, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 with her son by her side at her son's home in Madison County, Virginia. She was born December 19, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD to parents Paul and Mary Katherine (Grove) McNeill and grew up in Washington, D.C. and Welsh Run, PA. She graduated college from George Washington University and had a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University. After residing in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, VA, Micheleen moved to Baltimore in 1970, moving to her permanent home on Eutaw Place, the former Hutzler mansion, in Baltimore in 1977. Micheleen spent her life devoted to her sons and to the restoration of historic neighborhoods. She taught for over twenty-five years in the Baltimore City Schools and worked tirelessly to improve her Bolton Hill neighborhood, serving on the Mount Royal and Eutaw Place Improvement Associations. She also led the neighborhood effort to build the Spicer's Run Community, which brought affordable owner occupied homes into a lot that once held one of the most dangerous housing projects in Baltimore City. She lovingly restored two victorian properties in Bolton Hill, including her home, and managed rental units until her retirement in 2013. In 2013, Micheleen moved to Rhode Island to be closer to her son and his family. She enjoyed going to the theatre and symphony with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered with the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse in Riverside RI and as a docent at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol RI. Micheleen is survived by her brother Paul "Jim" McNeill, his wife Sabra, and her niece Mary Katherine; her brother Matthew McNeill, his wife Mana, her nephews Andrew and Cy, and her niece Ivana; her son Anthony Watson and his wife Anna; and her beloved grandchildren Alexandra, Angus, and Gwendolyn. She was predeceased by her parents and her son, Alexander. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care of Micheleen in her final weeks. Services will be held in Baltimore at Corpus Christi Church in Bolton Hill at 10am on Saturday, November 26, 2016. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance can be sent to the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, P.O. Box 15121 East Providence, RI 02915 or to Hospice of the Piedmont Attn: Development Office 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911.
