Peter M. Lynagh Notice
LYNAGH, PH.D. , Peter M. Peter M. Lynagh, Ph.D., passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center in Newtown, PA on Oct. 9, 2011 from complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Washington D.C. in 1935, the son of the late James Joseph and Catherine Selina Lynagh, Dr. Lynagh was a third generation Washingtonian. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Dr. Lynagh received his B.S. degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1960. In 1964 he graduated from Oklahoma University with an M.B.A., and later earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1970. Since 1982, Dr. Lynagh has taught Marketing in the Merrick School of Business, University of Baltimore. During his tenure there, he has written numerous articles for professional journals such as the "Transportation Journal" and the "Journal of Consumer Marketing". He has also been an active member of the American Marketing Association and the Association of Transportation Practitioners. Highly respected by his colleagues and much loved by his many students, Dr. Lynagh was the recipient of the Frank Baker Teaching Professorship from 2006 to 2009. He was awarded the Dean James Chair for Distinguished Teaching and the University of Baltimore Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2010. Dr. Lynagh is survived by a daughter, Nancy E. Blake and son-in-law Paul R. Blake of Newtown, PA; and a son, Michael J. Lynagh and daughter-in law Wendi F. Lynagh of Edmonds, WA; as well as 3 grandsons Christopher P. Blake, Conor J. Lynagh, and Gavin M. Lynagh; and a granddaughter Nicole E. Blake. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at the Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6405 S. Orchard Road, Linthicum, MD 21090. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to a gathering at the atrium of the Business Center (Merrick School of Business) at 11 W. Mt. Royal from 2 PM-4 PM to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Dr. Lynagh. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations in Dr. Lynagh's name be made to the University of Baltimore Foundation
