Richard Robinson Notice

Richard (Dick) M. Robinson of Towson, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2015, at the Joseph Richey Hospice House after a long illness. He was 69. Richard grew up in Baltimore and Timonium, Maryland and graduated from Dulaney Valley High School. He attended the University of Baltimore and then served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked with his brother, Jim, at Robby's Tire Co., his father's business, and ran a tire repair truck business. In the mid 1970s, he moved to St. Thomas, USVI, with his brother Jim and his family, where they ran a bar together. After leaving St. Thomas, he lived in Maryland (Baltimore and Annapolis) and Virginia (Richmond) to be near his brother, Jim, his sister, Reba, and their families. He worked for several different car dealerships in Maryland and Virginia, most recently as head of fleet sales for Bob Bell Chevrolet. Richard loved sports, both as a player and spectator, especially football, basketball, and golf. He could be found on the golf course most weekends, even after he became ill, enjoying riding along in the cart while his friends played. He taught himself to play the harmonica, performing for friends and with other musicians in local clubs. He had a smile and kind word for everyone he met, making life long friends everywhere he lived and worked. He faced his many health problems and illnesses with bravery and always kept his sense of humor, never letting his illnesses get the better of him. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Therman Lewis (Robby) Robinson and Muriel Robinson Schoelkopf, his stepfather, Jack Schoelkopf, and his brother, James (Jim) D. Robinson. He is survived by his sister, Reba Robinson McVey and her husband Henry (Hal) McVey, his sisters-in-law Gretchen Connor and Pam Robinson Bradley, four nephews and a niece, six great nephews and a great niece, and his dear friend Sue Grace Hayes. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11. For more information, please contact Sue Hayes at sghayes10@gmail.com. A private interment will be held at a later date. The family suggests donations in Richard's memory to Gilchrist Hospice Care, Inc., 11311 McCormick Road, Suite 350, Hunt Valley, Maryland 21031.
