I think about Bob frequently. He was such a funny, brilliant, and kind person. I remember at one conference Bob was being unfairly attacked by a theorist (of course time proved Bob correct). At the end of the tirade, Bob said, "well, I'll still send you Christmas card." It seems so wrong that such a positive person is gone.

Fond memories of a brilliant, funny, and sensitive guy during our time together at AEPi and MIT. He was always interested and interesting.

Bob's unexpected passing is a great loss to us all. A man of bitlliance and an intellect in our field, a man who also unassumingly wore the house ugly tie and wrinkled coat for dinner at the Hopkins Club (when business coat and tie was required), and whose office during his tenure as chair was the anteroom normally occupied by the department secretary. I valued his advice, scholarly interchange, and his friendship, back during the CNDE days and recently. An honor to have known him and whose memories we will value eternally.

I am awed at the fact that Bob has passed away. A truly caring individual, and a superb colleague, with a fine sense of humor. I will value my interactions with him from graduate school, and afterwards, and the help he gave me, unstintingly and in plenty, in many discussions on my own and his research. Dear Sharka, please accept my condolences on the passing of such a fine gentleman and scholar.

Bob was a positive spirit and a delightful colleague at JHU. Our appointments as chairs of our respective departments overlapped so we saw a lot of each other at a time when we were heavily involved in administrative matters. Bob could consistently be counted on to improve the mood of a room full of people. It was always a pleasure to see him having lunch at the Mattin Center and join him for some quality time. I especially appreciated Bob's sense of humor and warmth. I know I speak for many of us in the Hopkins community when I say that he will be especially missed here.

I met Professor Cammarata around the time he first started at JHU in 88/89. He was a humble, humorous and clearly intelligent prof. who brought a youthfulness to an otherwise stuffy dept. He made a positive impression with my parents as well. My family shares condolences. He will be missed.

Dear Sharka,

I am so sad to hear this news. My heart goes out to you. Bob was a brilliant, kind and funny man. The world is a less friendly place without him. I will miss him.

Yours,

Sharka,
I am so sorry to hear this. I, too, have so many fond memories of you and Bob. Even now there's a smile on my face remembering our comparisons of our "four-legged children" and many other talks we had. I will miss him. Please take care.
Fondly,
Barbara Sewall
