Robert Edward McKelvey Jr. Notice

Robert (Bob) E. McKelvey Jr., 77, of Howard County, Maryland, died on August 18, 2016 at Medstar Montgomery General Hospital of Respiratory Failure. Over the course of his 45-year career in the Food and Beverage industry, he held senior roles at the Canteen Corporation, Quality Inn Hotels, and the Marriott Corporation. He was part of the executive management team who re-opened the famous Ocean City Maryland Carousel Hotel, a Marriott property, in the mid-1970s. Over his career, Bob was charged with designing or redesigning the food service operations in the White House Complex, Department of Justice, FBI, the United Nations, Goddard Space Flight Center, Harley Davidson, Library of Congress, USDA, Three Mile Island, and other commercial and Government facilities. In the final years of his career, he left the corporate environment and became a successful entrepreneur. A native of Washington, D.C. and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. McKelvey Sr., he was a graduate of DC-based St John's College High School in 1956. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Denver in 1962. While living in Denver, Bob met and married Molly Kay Mayfield in 1964 and they were married for 36 years. Before Molly succumbed to complications from Hodgkins Disease in 2001, they developed a love of the beach, traveling, and a particular fondness for the Native American Culture. After her passing, he supported many Native American causes and charities, and he became an active charter member of the National American Indian Museum in Washington, D.C. Bob is survived by Mary Katherine Shilling (nee McKelvey) & Jeff Shilling, Erin Prince (nee McKelvey) & Wade Prince, and Matthew McKelvey & Jacylyn McKelvey; as well as his many grandchildren.
