Robert Roane (Bob) Hershfeld Notice


Robert Roane Hershfeld passed away in the evening of August 4, 2015, at the age of 91 years and 360 days at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home from dementia. Bob was born on August 9, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland where he lived until after his high school graduation in 1942. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was training to be a pilot at Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis when World War II ended. It was during this time he met and married the former Jeanette Louise Tries in 1945 and settled in St. Louis. After the war he attended Washington University and earned a degree in Engineering. For most of his life, he designed machinery for the meat packing industry and held several patents. After his wife Jeanette passed in 2001, he met Rita McNeal during a holiday picnic. They were married in 2003 in Baltimore, Maryland. Bob and Rita enjoyed many of their senior years together until his recent passing. Bob was an avid reader of non-fiction and poetry. He enjoyed knowledge of history and airplanes and spending time woodworking, gardening, home improvement and traveling. Bob is survived by his wife Rita, his sons Glenn and his wife Michele, Tom and his wife Tana and 8 grandchildren. His sisters Mary Hershfeld (predeceased), Ann Lau and husband Jim, Ellie Morrison and husband Robert and many nieces, nephews and step-children. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1:30pm at Hope Presbyterian Church 4748 Shelbourne Road, Arbutus, Md. 21227 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Presbyterian Church.
