Rolland D. McMullen Notice

Rolland D. "Mac" McMullen, died April 1, 2016, he was born in Pekin, Ill on August 23, 1927. He was the son of the late Oral and Lutie Mae McMullen and brother to the late Eileen Palmer, Darlene Waller and Jay McMullen. He is survived by his wife, Alva Mary (Amoss) McMullen of Fallston, MD and his daughter, Nancy McMullen of Darlington, MD and his two stepchildren Catherine Amoss Babcock (Bobby) and William D. Amoss (Mary) all of Fallston MD, several step-grandchildren and his nephew, Steven J. McMullen of Chicago Ill, and additional nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Norma (Hancock) McMullen. Rolland was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War, having served on the U.S. Los Angeles Ship a heavy cruiser. He graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Illinois in 1950, majoring in Economics and his name is engraved on the Bronze Tablet in the University Library. After graduation, Rolland was employed by Standard Oil (Indiana) in Chicago, Ill which was later consolidated with Amoco Oil Co. He then served in various positions in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Kansas City and Baltimore. While in Baltimore he served as regional Vice President and was responsible for Marketing and Distribution in the Eastern half of the United States. He then moved back to Chicago and served as Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for the Western half of the United States. After retiring from Amoco Oil Co. in 1990, he accepted an assignment as Senior Vice President of CROWN Central Petroleum, headquartered in Baltimore, MD. Rolland was a member of the Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, MD, Winters Run Golf Club in Bel Air, MD, Eagles Nest in Towson, MD, and a longtime member of Imperial Golf Club in Naples, FL. After retiring, he and his wife, Alva enjoyed their homes in Fallston, MD and Naples, FL. In his later years Rolland became an avid fan of the Illinois Fighting Illini, the University of Maryland Terrapins and the Baltimore Ravens. He will be remembered as the loyal and prudent head of the McMullen Family and was counted on, for advice, on all subjects. His keen sense of humor will be sorely missed. Friends may call at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Rd. (Beltway exit 26), Sunday, April 3, from 3 to 6 pm. A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Monday, April 4 at 2 pm.
